Carol Sather has over 25 years’ experience at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) working in various areas of research administration, contracts, human resources, accounting, business systems, and general business operations.
Prior to coming to the institute, Ms. Sather worked in the newspaper industry for over 15 years in accounting, human resources, and payroll. Her family history of diabetes and her interest in the work underway in juvenile diabetes research drove her to change industries and contribute to the important work at KPWHRI.
She has provided support and direction to many groups at the institute over the years, always with a focus on supporting the science. Her current areas of oversight are research contracting and the research business systems and services team. This team supports the operational structure by providing services in the areas of workforce planning, payroll, research accounting (including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing), facilities support, and purchasing — as well as managing the systems and applications that support this work. The team also assists with the interpretation and implementation of federal regulations, as well as Kaiser Permanente, Kaiser Permanente Washington, and KPWHRI policies and procedures, while ensuring all activities are performed in compliance with federal audit regulations.
Utilizing a systematic, cross-functional approach, Ms. Sather and her team help empower KPWHRI to do cutting-edge research to help people live healthier lives.
