Dr. Dunn honored by CDC for vaccine advocacy

GHRI Adjunct Researcher and Group Health Pediatrician John Dunn, MD, recently received the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s 2016 Childhood Immunization Champion Award  for Washington state. The annual honor recognizes individuals in each state who make important contributions to public health through their work in childhood immunization. Dr. Dunn, who recently became Group Health’s assistant medical director of preventive care, is a longtime collaborator on GHRI research related to vaccine hesitancy. He serves as chair of the Immunization Program at Group Health and is a member of the Washington Vaccine Association, the Vaccine Advisory Committee, and the Vax Northwest Oversight Committee. The Washington Department of Health nominated him for the award.

Dr. Buist named to advisory committee on low-value care

GHRI Senior Investigator Diana Buist, PhD, MPH, was recently appointed to the Advisory Committee for the AcademyHealth-ABIM Foundation Low-Value Care Research Community, which launched on April 25. The committee will guide the creation of a learning community that will work with researchers and other stakeholders from across the health care system to help develop and implement timely and relevant research on low-value care. The community will include an online forum, a seven-part webinar series, and an in-person meeting to accelerate research and inform efforts to reduce low-value care in the United States and globally. For the past few years, Dr. Buist has worked closely with Matt Handley, MD, Group Health’s associate medical director of quality and informatics, on a Group Health Foundation-funded Partnership for Innovation project to reduce low-value care at Group Health.
