Shortreed chosen as statistical association fellow

The American Statistical Association has selected Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) Senior Investigator Susan Shortreed, PhD, as a fellow. This honor recognizes association members for professional contributions, leadership, and commitment to the field of statistical science. Shortreed joins other association fellows at KPWHRI: Jen Nelson, PhD, Pam Shaw, PhD, MS, and Diana Miglioretti, PhD, an affiliate investigator.

Coleman speaks at Kaiser Permanente International

In April, Katie Coleman, MSPH, director of the Center for Accelerating Care Transformation at KPWHRI, was invited to speak at Kaiser Permanente International about evidence-based primary care models and their application at Kaiser Permanente Washington. A recording is available. Kaiser Permanente International is a nonprofit educational subsidiary of Kaiser Permanente that provides educational experiences for international health care professionals who want to understand the Kaiser Permanente model.

Green presents on hypertension research

Bev Green, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior investigator and Washington Permanente Medical Group physician, presented results from her BP-CHECK trial at the 32nd Annual Vascular Biology and Hypertension Symposium in April. Green presented virtually about BP-CHECK, which compared clinic visits, blood pressure kiosks in clinic waiting rooms or pharmacies, and home monitors for measuring blood pressure when making a diagnosis of hypertension.

KPWHRI researchers featured at HCSRN 2022

At the April annual meeting of the Health Care Systems Research Network in Pasadena, California, several KPWHRI researchers presented about their work. KPWHRI Assistant Investigator Gwen Lapham, PhD, MPH, MSW, was a panelist for a discussion on capturing medical marijuana use in electronic health records. Research Associate Meagan Brown, PhD, MPH, was a panelist for a session on screening for social needs within health systems. Patrick Heagerty, PhD, an affiliate investigator, presented at a workshop on "Essentials of embedded pragmatic clinical trials."
