nancy.weinfield__187x187.jpgNancy Weinfield, PhD, is a research scientist with the Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI). Her research focuses on maternal and child health, mental and behavioral health, and family wellbeing. She is particularly interested in disparities and unmet social needs that may impede healthy outcomes. Her studies employ a variety of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, always seeking to contextualize pathways to health and wellness.

Prior to joining MAPRI, Dr. Weinfield’s past research focused on food insecurity, health, and coping in low-income families. She led longitudinal research for the US Department of Agriculture on the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), understanding feeding choices and practices, and children’s long-term nutrition and health outcomes, in low-income families receiving WIC benefits. She has also conducted research on who accesses charitable food programs, and how use of these programs complements recipients’ management of other social needs and coping strategies.

Dr. Weinfield earned her PhD in Child Development from the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Child Development, and her MA in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
